If you no longer want to use KnobShift or want a clean reinstall, you can remove all of its parts with an included script. It only takes a moment.
Uninstall KnobShift
- Quit Logic Pro and Ableton Live if they're running.
- Open Terminal (in Applications → Utilities).
- Enter the following command and press Return.
sudo "/Library/Application Support/KnobShift/uninstall.sh"
Then enter your Mac password and confirm. No characters appear while you type; that's normal. When “KnobShift wurde entfernt.” (KnobShift has been removed) appears, you're done.
Note: The script has to run with
sudo. Without it, the script stops with “Bitte mit sudo ausführen.” (Please run with sudo).
What does the script remove?
- the running KnobShift Companion and its autostart at login,
- the KnobShift Companion app from the Applications folder,
- KnobShift Bridge and KnobShift Bridge FX as Audio Unit and VST3 from
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins, - the KnobShiftRemote Ableton remote script from your Ableton User Library,
- the
/Library/Application Support/KnobShiftfolder, including the script itself, - the package's installation record in the system.
The script also has macOS reload its list of Audio Units, so the bridge disappears from the plugin lists.
How do you check that everything is gone?
- The three-slider icon has disappeared from the menu bar.
- There's no KnobShift Companion in the Applications folder anymore.
- Logic Pro no longer lists a bridge under the manufacturer KnobShift.
What stays?
The script only affects the Mac. The KnobShift app on your iPad and the dashboards saved there stay unchanged.
Tip: If you want to keep your dashboards, export them first in the KnobShift app with Export. See Create, share and import dashboards.
Reinstall KnobShift
For a clean reinstall, download the current package from the download page and follow Install KnobShift on your Mac.
If anything is left behind after removal or the script reports an error, let us know in the forum.
Frequently asked questions
Is it enough to move KnobShift Companion to the Trash?
No. The bridge plugins, the autostart entry and the Ableton script would stay behind. Use the included uninstall.sh script.
Why does Terminal ask for a password?
The script removes files from system folders, so it runs with sudo. Enter your Mac password; nothing is shown while you type.
Can I reinstall KnobShift later?
Yes. Download the package again from the download page and install it as you did the first time.
