After installation, the KnobShift Bridge should appear in Logic Pro under the manufacturer KnobShift. If it isn't there, it's usually because Logic hasn't scanned the new plugins yet. Here's how to fix that.
Are you looking in the right place?
KnobShift installs two versions:
- KnobShift Bridge is an instrument. You'll find it on a software instrument track in the instrument slot under AU Instruments → KnobShift → KnobShift Bridge.
- KnobShift Bridge FX is an effect. You'll find it in an effect slot under KnobShift → KnobShift Bridge FX.
Tip: The instrument slot only shows the instrument version, and the effect slot only shows the effect version.
Have Logic rescan the plugins
- If Logic was open during installation, quit it and start it again. On the first launch after installation, Logic scans new plugins, which can take a moment.
- If the bridge is still missing, open Logic Pro → Settings → Plug-in Manager.
- Click Reset & Rescan Selection.
- Wait until Logic has finished scanning, then look for the bridge again as described above.
Is KnobShift actually installed?
Check that the plugin files are on your Mac. Open Terminal and enter:
ls "/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components" | grep KnobShift
You should see KnobShift Bridge.component and KnobShift Bridge FX.component. The VST3 versions are in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3.
If the files are missing, install the package again from the download page. Remember the one-time approval under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. The steps are in Install KnobShift on your Mac.
Note: The KnobShift package requires macOS 14 or later.
The bridge is there, but the iPad shows nothing?
Then the problem isn't Logic but the connection:
- If the top right of the bridge window says “○ Companion nicht gestartet” (Companion not started), launch KnobShift Companion from Applications → KnobShift Companion. The bridge reconnects every two seconds.
- If you haven't chosen a plugin in the bridge window yet, click Plugin wählen (Choose plugin) at the top.
- Logic's own instruments such as Alchemy or ES2 aren't Audio Units and can't be loaded into the bridge.
More in The KnobShift app can't find the Mac.
Nothing helps?
Describe the problem in the forum. Include your macOS and Logic version and attach a screenshot of the Companion menu.
